Heat-Treated Pallets vs. Fumigation-Free Pallets

Exporters often hear terms such as heat-treated pallets, fumigation-free pallets and IPPC-marked wood packaging. These products are not the same. They differ in material, treatment process, documentation and suitable applications.

What is a heat-treated wooden pallet?

A heat-treated pallet is usually made from solid wood and processed according to relevant phytosanitary requirements such as ISPM-15. Qualified export wood packaging normally carries an IPPC mark to show that treatment has been completed.

What is a fumigation-free pallet?

Fumigation-free pallets are often made from plywood or other processed wood materials. Because the material has already been manufactured under heat and pressure, it may not require traditional fumigation or heat treatment for many export scenarios.

How to choose

  • Heavy cargo and equipment: heat-treated solid-wood pallets may provide higher structural strength.
  • Light and medium export cargo: plywood fumigation-free pallets can simplify handling.
  • Strict destination requirements: confirm with the buyer, freight forwarder and destination port in advance.
  • Compliance support: choose a supplier with stable production and export packaging experience.
